Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT as it is simply known, is a form of energy healing. It is classed as a cousin to acupuncture, or in layman terms, as ”DIY acupuncture” without needles. It was developed from the tapping therapies used by kinesiologists, via the propriety therapy TFT.
EFT comes under the headings of Energy Psychology and Meridian Therapies. Quite often these two defining titles overlap. Following is a definition of each.
Energy Psychology defines a set of therapies that use the as-yet scientifically unproven energy system to eliminate psychological trauma and barriers to a normal healthy life. The range of Energy Psychology therapies is ever-increasing and its effects are proving very impressive to date.
Meridian Therapies focuses on therapies that use the Meridian System to bring about mental, emotional and even physical change. The Meridian system was developed and used by the Chinese. The body’s energy flows along these Meridian lines and can sometimes become blocked. The Chinese use accupuncture needles and other methods to stimulate and release the stored energy to bring about healing and relief.
EFT is a technique that involves tapping on various points on the different Meridian lines with the intention of reducing or eliminating a particular issue or problem. EFT is derived from TFT (Though Field Therapy) by Roger Callahan. This is also a tapping technique however, it involves different complex tapping protocols for different issues. Gary Craig designed EFT as one single protocol for any and all issues and focuses.
The foundation belief for this technique according to its creator, Gary Craig, is that “The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body´s energy system.”. The solution, therefore, is to tap on various points of the body’s energy system to eliminate the disruption and restore the system to normal function. As a result, everything from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) to phobias and fears, anxiety, panic attacks, emotionally based physical and mental illness and pain and much more can be eliminated by tapping on these points.
With such simplicity involved, there are some wonderful benefits to this technique:
- It works, often in minutes!
- It is very easy to learn and implement in most cases
- This is a pain-free technique which means that there is no need to delve into your trauma to eliminate it
- If you want to work with a practitioner, it can be done over the phone or even in a chat room!
EFT is similar to accupressure, but you do not use needles. Instead you tap on certain areas of the body that send signals to your brain to relax, these areas are called meridian points. It is believed that this technique has promise to completely change that way we feel about food. In one study cravings were reduced by 80%, this is an amazing reduction for such a simple program.
Similar techniques date back over 5,000 years to Ancient Chinese Medicine. It is a powerful yet simple self-healing technique that helps you manage your own health. EFT can help alleviate symptoms such as aches/pains, phobias/fears, anxiety, stress…in fact many symptoms associated with sickness and ill-health. In effect, this means EFT can be self applied or used with a practitioner.
